The Mind Set You Need

How did you build your fan base when you were starting out

This #AsknoV question reminded me that I need to explain where I REALLY Started marketing my music.

When I finally got to the point I had songs I wanted to release, I had no idea how to market them. My only instinct was to promote it to people ONE PERSON AT A TIME.

So I made a Myspace page and I released a song onto it. Just one song. Then I started adding EVERYONE and inboxing them all, one person at a time. I’d politely ask them to check out my music and whoever liked it became a fan.

I to this day still have fans I remember have been around since back then. They are friends on my Facebook page and they still comment on my Youtube channel.

What I am getting at is, if you want to start building a fan base, you need to start building relationships with people. One person at a time. This entire marketing Level is designed to help you gain one fan at a time. Those fans all add up to thousands and eventually millions of fans if you have the heart and work ethic to stick it out and find your path to greatness.

*No, I’m not basing this on the 1,000 fan theory but that is a good way to look at it too.*

Release a good song or two after you have spent some time truly building your style. Then start building relationships with good people. Inbox your friends one by one, inbox your friends FRIENDS saying you’re friends with ______ and say “They said you’d like this.”

Do what you have to do to get people to listen. Add them to your fan base and then move to the next person and continue!

Are you asking “Where Do I Put My Music At Online?”

I am assuming you already read Level 0 – Part 3 – Creating Your Social Media Presence if not, that is why you shouldn’t skip any of my guide. Go back and check it out really quick. 🙂

Should I post my music on iTunes and other online stores?

It never hurts to post your stuff on iTunes just in case you do have some supporters that want to support your amazingness and help you in following your dreams. All of my mixtapes that are posted up for free, I also post on iTunes.

Whenever I gain a new hardcore fan they tend to purchase everything they can from me.

The opposite is not a wise choice though. ONLY Uploading it to iTunes and not offering it for free is one of THE DUMBEST things I see wanna be rappers do.

They actually are expecting to get paid from their music. That is fucking hysterical.

When I see an Instagram bio of a guy with 800 followers and his bio says “Rapper|Entrepreneur|Songwriter|Next Big Thing|” and it links to his iTunes…..

I know this guy doesn’t know what planet he is on and has no idea how the people or the music industry works.

That link only gets clicked by a drunk girl when her finger slips as they are trying to leave his profile because they don’t know how they wound up there.

LET ME TELL YOU WHY THIS GUY IS CLUELESS:

1) Because everyone and their fucking cousin brother sister uncle want to be rappers. They think it’s as easy as just getting a beat, writing rhymes and putting it out. But me and you…. we know that’s not the case.

That’s why I took 2 Months to organize and write this entire guide (Today is my birthday and I’m working on this guide for you). So you can understand what to do, to be a better cousin brother sister uncle rapper minus the wanna-be part.

2) The Market is completely over saturated because of these cousin uncles. That means people have WAYYYY too many options for music. Let me ask you a question sir, Why the fuck would people pay to hear your music when it’s so easy to steal someone’s music they actually care about and like already?

You need to offer your music for free, because you are lucky anyone is even giving you a chance and listening to your music to potentially become a fan. They could be listening to someone they already know they like. Be thankful they are listening to you, I always am.

I have much more to say on this topic, you can read more on that here [LINK TO Why It Is So Hard To Gain Fans And How To Win] COMING SOON
